About Arpita

Arpita Sen is a BHARATANATYAM performer and teacher, senior disciple of the illustrious Guru, Sangeet Natak Academy awardee, Guru Dr. Thankamani Kutty and Smt. Girija Balagopal, Kalamandalam Kolkata. She was put into training at the age of six by her parents, Late Dr. Swapan Kumar Sen and Smt. Tapati Sen. At the age of 12, she appeared as a young dancer in a television programme for children, Doordarshan Kendra Kolkata. At the age of 14, she represented West Bengal in International Children’s Assembly at National Bal Bhavan, New Delhi. She performed her Arangetram in 2003, with reviews in The Times of India, The Statesman, The Hindustan Times, The Telegraph etc. She has been a recipient of the National Scholarship from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, 2005-2007, and has performed in several prestigious dance festivals in India and Australia, San Francisco, Kuwait, Singapore etc., both as a member of the Kalamandalam Kolkata Performing Wing and as a solo performer.

She received training in KUCHIPUDI under the great Gurus Padmabhushan Drs. Raja Radha Reddy and Guru Kaushalya Reddy and is also a learner of Western Classical VIOLIN from The Calcutta School of Music.

She has received her training in BHARATANRITHYAM under Guru Dr. Sujatha Mohan, Padmashree Nrithyalaya, Chennai.

She has been a part of intensive Bharatanatyam workshops under great and reknowned gurus, Guru Shankar Kandasamy, Guru Priyadarsini Govind, Guru Anita Ratnam. Academically, she is a Master’s Degree holder in English.

She received the Kindled Spirits Award by The Dance India organisation on International Women’s Day in 2018. She has also been a dance teacher at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Air Force Station, Nashik. She was away from the stage for some years due to personal reasons, a career break; in between she shifted base twice and thereafter resumed her learning, studying and performances on stage. It is to dance and music that she devotes her life.

She is deeply indebted to her Gurus, her parents and her sibling, Miss Aranya Sen, for their unconditional guidance, unwavering contribution and relentless support.
